Ryan Jacobs

Congratulations to Ryan Jacobs for winning one of four scholarships awarded by Tealinc, Ltd. Ryan’s biography below showcases his excellence in both education and community involvement.

On May 19, 2012 I will graduate from Trinity Valley School in Fort Worth, Texas. I have a 4.06 GPA. In 2011, I was awarded the honor of being an AP Scholar with Distinction, received the National Merit Letter of Commendation, and was inducted into the National Honor Society.

Since the fifth grade, I have developed a strong interest in medicine, which has increased through learning in the classroom, volunteering, and interacting with doctors. My favorite subjects in school are chemistry and biology, and I want to learn more about applying knowledge from these subjects for use in the field.

During the last four winters, I volunteered at Kid’s Connection, an after school program for elementary school children from low-income families. During the last three summers, I volunteered at Cook Ryan JacobsChildren’s Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. This last summer, I shadowed two pediatric neurosurgeons at Cook Children’s Hospital as well. The time I have spent volunteering has made me realize that I love helping others and making a positive impact on people’s lives. Shadowing doctors last summer affirmed that I can change people’s lives for the better.

In addition to volunteering and shadowing doctors, I founded, managed, and worked at a landscaping business with a friend for two summers. I played on my school’s volleyball team and have lettered for the past three years. This past season I was a co-captain, awarded the Most Valuable Player on my team, and a member of the All-Conference Team. I played on my school’s baseball team and have lettered for the past two years. I have also played competitive club volleyball, and my team has qualified and played in the Open Division of the Boy’s Junior National Championships for the past four years. I also enjoy playing the guitar, which I have played for six years.

In the fall, I plan to attend Washington University in St. Louis, and I will most likely major in either chemistry or biology while going on the pre-medicine track. I will pursue my passion for medicine and my goal to go to medical school in order to become a compassionate doctor.
